girls on radio

(a new buttonfly song, for girl reducers)

i want more i want more i want more like i had before i tuned in to you

you spin the records all too fast you aren’t playing what i asked for
& it’s too hot to argue too hot to talk
where's my chick rock? where's my foxtrot?

girls talk women rock, where's the problem?
come'on find me a good chick rock
a good tick tock, that you won't mock

BRIDGE:
i'm throwing down the glove, don't throw in the towel
i won't switch the dial even though i've been waiting quite a while
i don't know where i’ve been, just tuned in to the wrong station
on the radio

the louder it gets the easier to place your bets
& i’m betting on this year long stand-off
there’s no reason to insist, but it would be better if
we starting playing the same tune
if we believed, if i believed
in rock & roll girls on the radio
girls on radio

BRIDGE: what’s enough what’s too much
i won’t give up if you say i can’t rock
i’ll say, oh, but i can roll, so roll over baby
let’s go let’s go let’s go

i’m pulling out all the stops reading between the lines
waiting for the punch line i’m a girl i’m a girl
when i talk i can hear you sigh
wave me over, whisper the bass line
i don’t want to take up your time
asking for the same song, whining the same whine.
the airwaves are forgetting is it a lie lie girls on radio
a lie lie lie lie lie girls

exceptions

there are exceptions to the rule. you are the exception to the rule. oh cause you make me feel so cool. not cool enough not to rhyme -- something i always do when i am short of time.

still reading the horoscopes. mixing up the signs and it all still makes sense. here's a few i've clipped out for future collages that you might like. pick one that works for you.

"you may be in two minds about which way to move, but who says you have to move anywhere at all."

"if you make a mistake today -- and you will -- put it right the first chance you get. It may not be your way to say sorry when you don't have to but if you show a certain amount of remorse today it will impress some important people."

"try not to let your anxieties get the better of you today. no matter where you might be or what you might be doing you must think positive and you must keep reminding yourself that what looks like a big problem now won't look like a problem at all later on."

Ah, words of wisdom from Sally Brompton. Use them well. Sing them.

Unless you are the exception to the rule. love, unbuttoned

whirlwinds

whirlwinds are what happen to a character lily in timothy findley's the piano man's daughter, and i found myself sliding into lily while i read the book. the heat making me think, i too was descending into some kind of trance, fit. attraction to fire. amorous of ants.

not crazy of course. here i am. so let's try again. we can play quietly at the round tower. i know we can do it. we're taut. and well taught. and i'll have some tone. i'm working on tone. it's kinda like when i got my first ten speed. just cycled around in the gear i brought it home in. gears, knobs with numbers. automatic, standard, stick shift. i can drive any car, so i'm gonna do this. fiddle the knobs. save up for tube amp. my guitar can sing. watch it.

and dave & dan working working so hard, at how to sound quiet and rock all at once. and they did it! the children fell asleep and refused to believe it was alive. a live dan. a live dave. humming beneath them.

so, we'll be humming at the round tower pub. thursday. july 14 & july 21. see ya there. humming and emoting all with good tone. and good tunes.

judy. wait for it. wild daughters. girls on radio. radiowaves. trapped in a lazy heart. everyone's gone mad. slipping away. garbage day. ten second sweep.
